Logwood Village was established in 1986 to care for people with intellectual disabilities. The organization continues to develop its premises on a spacious 18-hectar farm in Nooitgedacht, north west of Johannesburg. Not long ago, an old-age home in Gauteng and KZN caught alight resulting in the death of disabled and elderly residents.
Owing to the inevitable conflicting demands for security to protect the residents and to ensure their safe evacuation in an event of an emergency, new lock-sets from DORMA were sponsored as to avoid the risk of residents fumbling or losing keys in the dark in the event of a fire
Ian Pretorius, Director at Impendulo Design Architects and Chairman of Logwood Village says: “Our primary concern was for the safety of the Residents in the event of fire to ensure that they would be able to evacuate without the risk of fumbling or losing keys in the darkness.”
